Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to drive impactful change together!

Lonzel Jones - Regional Chair (Caribbean)
We are thrilled to share an inspiring update from our Caribbean Regional Chair, Lonzel Jones, who has been making waves in Guyana’s renewable energy landscape. As a lecturer and instructor with Green Solutions International—a leader in regional renewable energy education—Lonzel spearheaded a groundbreaking dual-phase training program that is redefining the solar energy sector.
Classroom Training
The first phase of the program uplifted seasoned electrical engineers and solar technicians, transforming them into solar energy champions. Through in-depth modules, participants mastered cutting-edge installation techniques, advanced maintenance protocols, and precision commissioning, setting a new standard for excellence in the field. The second phase, however, marked a true milestone: Lonzel led the training of 15 women from Berbice (Region 6)—95% of whom had no prior electrical background—guiding them from complete novices to certified solar technicians. This intensive program covered fundamental electrical principles, hands-on solar array installation, and critical maintenance procedures, culminating in a remarkable professional transformation.

Hands-on Training
The results are nothing short of extraordinary. These 15 women have not only excelled but are now immersed in a 6-month internship with GuySol, actively contributing to solar farms across Berbice. They are installing the infrastructure that will power Guyana’s sustainable future, proving that with the right training, anyone can become a renewable energy professional. This initiative goes beyond skills transfer—it embodies economic empowerment and gender equality, as these women have become the hands-on architects of their region’s energy independence, earning sustainable livelihoods while building a cleaner, greener Guyana, one solar panel at a time.

15 women 1 mission
This transformative training aligns seamlessly with ACEN’s mission and goals. By connecting, empowering, and supporting energy stakeholders across Africa and the Caribbean, we are committed to delivering affordable, clean, and sustainable energy for all, as outlined in our support for SDG 7. The program’s focus on local capacity building, job creation, and inclusive opportunities reflects our five pillars of sustainability—People, Planet, Peace, Prosperity, and Partnership—while advancing our vision of lifting 1 million people out of energy poverty by 2035. Lonzel’s leadership exemplifies how ACEN fosters innovation and collaboration to create a thriving energy ecosystem that benefits communities across the region.
